Charters Towers: feelin' hot hot hot!

We can use a little break from the rainforest walks, and decide to head inland towards Charters Towers, a little city where the gold fever struck hard in the late 1800's. We leave the wet heat of the tropics behind for the dry, dusty heat of inland Australia. So hot you could melt! Thank God for airconditioning in our car.

Charters Towers is a cute little town, with pretty buildings. They even had their own stock exchange back in the days of the gold mines. It's now a coffee bar and shopping arcade though.

Entertainment is a bit different than in the big city: the local bar advertizes a lingerie parade and mechanic bull rides. For the Year End, the locals take it up a notch, there will be actual, real live bull rides. Yiehaaw!
