Visited another botanical garden in Cairns. One of the advantages of visiting Australia in springtime: all the trees, plants and flowers are in bloom. Really pretty! And there are butterflies everywhere! FINALLY got some pics of the beautiful Ulysses butterfly. This is by far the most beautiful butterfly we've seen here, with brilliant black-and-blue wings, but quite a challenge to capture on camera: the little bugger won't sit still for one second. And when he finally lands, he closes his wings, so you only see the dull brown colour on the underside.

It's getting dark when we drive back to Port Douglas. All of a sudden we see dark shapes flying above the road. Flying foxes! They're a kind of fruit bat, but really big, and with the snout of a dog. Beautiful creatures!

So far the weather has been fine: mostly sunny, with some clouds. But today the weather is all over the place: wind, rain and sunshine switch places every few minutes, and sometimes we get them all at once. With two days to go before the eclipse, we're getting a bit worried.
