Finally arrived in Sydney, after a horrible second flight. Got sick, and couldn't wait to get out of that little box!
First day we took it easy, walking from our hotel to the botanical gardens, and on to the opera house. Garden was amazing! We saw the coolest plants and flowers, but most impressive was the fragrance in the air. Tropical plants smell a lot stronger than our local European breeds. First time I've left the European ecological zone, so plants and animals are totally different than back home! There's birds everywhere: Australian white ibises, rainbow lorikeets,... Also nice to have a huge park smack in the middle of a busy city!
We had dinner in one of the food courts in Chinatown. The top floor of a shopping centre houses lots of little food stalls. If it's Asian, you can get it there: Chinese, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese,... And to top it of, a nice glass of wine in the winebar conveniently located on the ground floor of our hotel.
Second day the sun came out, a beautiful day! We took the beach trail from Bondi beach to Coogie Beach. Saw an art exhibition and some amazing rocks on the way. But coolest of all: we spotted whales!!! These are probably the last of them, on their way to Antarctica to spend the summer. Amazing sight to see them splashing their tails and blowing fountains of water!!! Koen got some great pics with that huge lense of his.
Tomorrow Sydney aquarium!

Zalig !! Mijn herinneringen aan Sydney komen ook weer helemaal terug ! Toffe stad, he ! Spijtig dat je ziek werd op de laatste vlucht : blijft een kwelling die je moet doorstaan om ergens te geraken, zeker als het lange vlucht is :-) Niet te veel jetlag ?

Benny, het is nog even wachten op Koen zijn foto's tot we weer in België zijn, maar ze zijn het wachten waard! Hij heeft o.a. een kaketoe in volle vlucht gefotografeerd, dat beest kwam recht op hem afgevlogen. Héél grave foto! -
